‘Suburban Rags’ A Punk Influence In Scotland’s Capital.

By Gary Ovens

After Dylan Wilson played at Leith Amplified’s Mayhem festival the punk-inspired ‘Suburban Rags’ was released for your enjoyment. We are given access to a dark, finely orchestrated wall of noise, rebellious in nature.

True to Punk’s origins of chaos, Dylan makes his intentions abundantly clear from the off. Sirens blare and guitars flare to launch an honest detailing of an experience in Edinburgh’s notorious underbelly.

As well as being heavily influenced by punk there are elements of this track that give a more acid-trip undertone. The wah-soaked guitar solo is a particular section where I can imagine the soft gliding sway of a Woodstock crowd.

If you like a song unafraid to go against the grain, where every word projected packs a sense of threat and danger, look no further. ‘Suburban Rags’ is filled with attitude and is very frenetic in it’s nature.

If you like a song with polish, this song is not safe for you. All the polish was used on Dylan’s Dr Martens boots that have stamped down in complete disregard societal norms and beliefs. An artist unafraid to speak his mind and remain filter-free.
